Description
Alcea Chater's Double Apricot, better known as Hollyhock, is a garden classic that brings a romantic charm to any outdoor space. With tall, elegant spikes reaching up to 180 cm, this variety boasts densely packed, double blooms in a warm apricot hue that brighten up borders, cottage gardens, and backdrops beautifully.
Blooming from mid-summer to early autumn, each flower appears like a delicate, ruffled rosette, creating an eye-catching display that truly captures the essence of an English country garden. Beloved by gardeners and pollinators alike, Chater's Double Apricot attracts bees and butterflies, making it an eco-friendly choice for enhancing garden biodiversity. Fully hardy and easy to grow, this Hollyhock thrives in sunny, well-drained spots, adding vertical interest and a touch of timeless elegance.
Alcea Chater's Double Apricot (Hollyhock) is not ideal for pots due to its tall growth habit (up to 1.5-2 metres) and extensive root system. Hollyhocks prefer being planted in garden beds where their roots can spread out and they have sufficient support to grow upright. However, if you wish to grow them in pots, choose a large, deep container (at least 30-40 cm in diameter and depth) to accommodate the roots. Ensure the pot has good drainage and use a high-quality, well-draining potting compost. Be prepared to stake the plants for added support as they grow tall to prevent them from toppling over.
Supplied as bare root plants by DutchGrown, this bestseller brings dependable beauty year after year, making it a must-have for those looking to create a vibrant, natural landscape with minimal effort.
